Tales from Kivu

With the defeat of the M23 rebels, the Congolese army has been faring far better than it has in the past, but necessary reforms remain to be implemented. Corruption, lack of training, and inadequate logistics are some of the first problems that have to be solved in order to stabilize the country, and Kivu in particular. Where most analysts and journalists have focused on armed groups and rebels, I decided to meet a couple of government (FARDC) soldiers to tell their side of the story.
